Enhanced a nonprofit's website for more effective storytelling

We undertook a user-centric website redesign project for Solutions in Hometown Connections (SHC), improving accessibility, modernizing the appearance, and streamlining content. Our goal was to empower SHC with an attractive and user-friendly platform to better communicate their story and engage the community, with a focus on privacy and ongoing support.

User Interviews

By conducting extensive interviews with diverse stakeholders(volunteers, donors, and refugees) I gained deep insights into the needs and challenges they encountered while navigating the website.

Main Interview Insights

Most volunteers/donors find it unclear what SHC did
Most site visitors found it difficult to locate and understand presented information (Complex navigation)
The SHC website lacked mobile-friendly design and functionality
Telling stories about at-risk populations was difficult
The NGO served refugees from Muslim-majority countries, where privacy is closely connected to modesty and family honor. Muslim women, in particular, bear the additional responsibility of preserving their family's reputation and honor through their personal actions and opinions
The website's design lacked creativity and style
The website lacked cohesive design and story
